Hello website patrons, potential employers and like-minded peers! My name is Sarah Berkman. I am a Persian, Iranian-American Graphic Illustrator and Designer from Topanga California. My work is abstract and color-centric with stylized, bold imagery packed with finer details that are thoughtful, deliberate and saturated in line work. I love exploring imaginary settings, seeing how they can mirror real ideologies or the everyday; capitalizing on warped environments and a dynamic compositional landscape that versifies two-dimensional space as well as the idea of the internal self. My process is in a constant dichotomy between simplicity and complexity, working with different levels of density while keeping in mind refinement and balance. Using the opposing forces of symmetry and randomness, grid- style layouts give way to proportions that in turn inform my work. This allows for image-making that feels curated and consistent, packed with both abstracted and representational details. The result is modern/post modern design from a contemporary lens, focusing on inviting, eye-popping imagery, creating visual solutions with subtle undertones that allude to my interests, experiences or perspective amidst an urban, digital era. I also have an affinity for creative writing and formal art analysis, being able to articulate my thought process just as easily as I can draw it. Infiltrating several areas of the art world, my work is curated towards an applied and studio space, being both functional & expressive. Cover Art, Poster Design, Print, Packaging, Surface Design, Asset creation, 2D Animation & Color Theory are my areas of professional focus with an aspiration to become a full-time Freelance & Exhibition Artist.
